IPL 2025 to Begin From 14th March

IPL 2025 Retention Rules

The IPL 2025 season is set to commence on March 14, with key details revealed including the final date, reduced match count, and confirmed player availability from major cricketing nations.

According to a recent report by ESPNcricinfo, the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season is set to kick off on March 14, with the final scheduled for May 25. While the venue for the final is yet to be announced, it is highly likely to be held at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, as the Kolkata Knight Riders clinched the 2024 IPL title.

The subsequent seasons, 2026 and 2027, are slated to commence on March 15 and March 14, respectively, concluding on May 31 and May 30, respectively. Interestingly, the 2025 season will feature 74 matches, a reduction of 10 matches compared to the 84 matches played in 2022.

A significant development for all 10 IPL franchises is the confirmed availability of players from all full member countries for the next three seasons. Cricket Australia has assured the BCCI that all its players, both international and domestic, will be available for the 2025 season.

In 2026, Australian players will be available after the conclusion of a three-match ODI series in Pakistan, scheduled to finish no later than March 18. Players resting after the T20 World Cup 2026 will also join the IPL post the Pakistan tour. For the 2027 season, Australian players will be available after the one-off Test against England in March.

ECB Submits List of Available Players

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has submitted a list of 18 centrally contracted players who will be fully available for the next three IPL seasons. Notably, England Test captain Ben Stokes is not on this list as he did not participate in the 2025 IPL mega auction.

The list of available players includes: Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson, Jonny Bairstow, Jacob Bethell, Harry Brook, Jos Buttler, Brydon Carse, Zak Crawley, Sam Curran, Ben Duckett, Will Jacks, Liam Livingstone, Ollie Pope, Matthew Potts, Adil Rashid, Phil Salt, Olly Stone, and Reece Topley.

The ECB has clarified that some of these players might be out of contract during the 2025-27 period, but they will be available for IPL matches while they are under contract. England’s non-centrally contracted players will also be fully available for the next three seasons.
