IPL 2025 To Be Suspended?
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 has been suspended indefinitely as per reports from ESPNcricinfo due to escalating military tensions between India and Pakistan. The decision follows a series of cross-border incidents, including drone and missile attacks, which have raised significant security concerns across the region.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the suspension after consulting with government authorities, prioritizing the safety of players, staff, and fans. The situation remains volatile, with both nations on high alert, leading to the indefinite halt of the tournament. Notably, a formal announcement from the board is expected soon.
The decision followed the abrupt abandonment of Thursday’s match between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC), which was called off midway through the first innings. The situation worsened with the closure of the airport in Dharamsala and surrounding areas, prompting the IPL authorities to arrange a special train to transport players and support staff from both teams to Delhi on Friday morning.
The ongoing edition of the IPL had completed 58 matches, including the abandoned fixture in Dharamsala. A total of 12 games remain in the group stage, scheduled to be held in cities like Lucknow (2 matches), Hyderabad, Ahmedabad (3), Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru (2), Mumbai, and Jaipur. The playoffs were set to take place in Hyderabad and Kolkata. The BCCI is expected to announce further plans based on the evolving security situation.

Another potential reason for the cancellation appears to be the constant bomb threats received by Jaipur, Gujarat and Eden gardens Stadium. Notably, earlier in the day, Arun Dhumal also hinted the cancellation of the tournament.
Franchises have begun making arrangements for the safe return of their players, with chartered flights being considered. According to The Indian Express, at least three franchises have already informed their players and support staff that detailed plans are being made to ensure their safe travel. “If players from other franchises also want to join, we would facilitate that as well. For now we are waiting to hear from the BCCI,” a franchise official stated.
