Sunrisers Hyderabad clinched a narrow victory by two runs in a tense finale as Ashutosh Sharma and Shashank Singh’s efforts nearly brought Punjab Kings level.

In the IPL 2024 match between Punjab Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad, Punjab Kings won the toss and elected to bowl first. Sunrisers Hyderabad faced early setbacks as Arshdeep Singh claimed key wickets of Travis Head and Aiden Markram in the fourth over. Despite the fall of Abhishek Sharma’s wicket, SRH managed to recover thanks to Nitish Reddy’s impressive half-century, scoring 64 runs off 37 balls. Reddy’s partnership with Abdul Samad contributed crucial runs, helping SRH post a total of 182/9 after a shaky start.

In response, Punjab Kings struggled in their powerplay, losing three wickets for just 27 runs. Sikandar Raza and Sam Curran stabilized the Punjab Kings’ innings with a 38-run partnership until Curran’s dismissal. Raza then accelerated alongside Shashank Singh but fell attempting big shots. Jitesh Sharma’s quick 19 kept their hopes alive.

The duo of Ashutosh Sharma and Shashank, heroes from the previous match, nearly pulled off another thrilling win. Ashutosh scored 33 off 15 balls, while Shashank smashed 46 off 25. Requiring 29 runs in the last over, they fell short by a narrow margin. Despite Hyderabad’s nervy victory, their fielding lapses made the match closer than expected.

Punjab Kings, disappointed with the loss, were led close to victory by Shashank and Ashutosh’s valiant efforts, ultimately falling short by just two runs.
