BCCI to Feature Dual Elite Lists
The BCCI informed IPL franchises of dual marquee player sets for the upcoming auction in Jeddah, where bidding will open on November 24.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has informed Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises that this year’s player auction will feature two sets of marquee players. The auction will take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, at the Abady Al Johar Arena on November 24 and 25.
According to information shared by franchise insiders, the BCCI has created two marquee lists of elite players, each containing 8-9 top names. Elite players expected to be on these marquee lists include Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh, R Ashwin, Mitchell Starc, and Jos Buttler. Ben Stokes would have been part of the marquee group as well, but he chose not to register for this year’s auction.
Each marquee player has set a base price of INR 2 crore and with each franchise likely to acquire at least two marquee players, the overall spending for these stars could total INR 200-250 crore. The two-day auction will begin with the marquee players, who are anticipated to command strong bids. The Punjab Kings hold the largest remaining purse of INR 110.5 crore and are positioned to secure some of the top talents.
Division of Players in the Auction Register
The BCCI has provided franchises with a register of 1,574 players, including 1,165 Indian and 409 overseas players, comprising 320 capped players, 1,224 uncapped, and 30 from Associate countries. Franchises have until November 12 to suggest additional names for inclusion in the final auction list, which will ultimately allow each team to have a squad of up to 25 players, with a maximum of 70 overseas players.
