South African cricket icon AB de Villiers expressed his delight with Chennai Super Kings’ retention of their skipper, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, signaling Dhoni’s return for another Indian Premier League season. Dhoni, aged 42, had previously hinted at his fitness concerns but reaffirmed his commitment to play in 2024, a move well-received by fans.
While talking on his YouTube channel, De Villiers shared his joy upon seeing Dhoni’s name in the retention list, highlighting the unpredictability surrounding Dhoni’s future beyond the upcoming season. Despite speculation about Dhoni’s retirement, De Villiers emphasized Dhoni’s penchant for surprising everyone, leaving open the possibility of him continuing beyond IPL 2024.
“I see that man’s name on the retention list, and it just makes me happy. There was a lot of talk about it in the last season about whether it was going to be his last season. He is moving on to 2024 to play another IPL season. With him, he is always full of surprises. Maybe he has got three more to go, who knows? But It is just great to see his name on there,” De Villiers said.
De Villiers also praised Shahrukh Khan’s consistency and strong gameplay, foreseeing potential interest from various IPL teams after his release from Punjab Kings. He highlighted CSK’s adeptness at acquiring released players, emphasizing their knack for revitalizing forgotten talents.
“Guys who seem to be forgotten, all of a sudden play in the yellow jersey and are in the top five run-scorers list or wicket-taking list,” the former RCB player said.
