AB de Villiers praised Sunrisers Hyderabad’s acquisitions, especially Wanindu Hasaranga for INR 1.5 crore, expressing confidence in their potential to win in IPL 2024.
Ahead of the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the auctions saw an array of star players like Mitchell Starc, Daryl Mitchell, and Rachin Ravindra being signed by various franchises. Sunrisers Hyderabad, particularly, caught attention with their big-money moves, securing Australian captain Pat Cummins for a whopping INR 20.5 crore.
Commenting on Hyderabad’s acquisitions, former South African cricketer AB de Villiers emphasized their potential. Highlighting the remarkable deal of Wanindu Hasaranga for just INR 1.5 crore, de Villiers expressed admiration for the Sri Lankan leg-spinner’s game-winning abilities, affirming that Hasaranga consistently shines in matches.
“One of the biggest steals of the IPL, Wanindu Hasaranga, the Sri Lankan leg-spinner, only INR 1.5 crore, I mean, do me a favour. That guy wins games, every second game he plays, he does something special. This team was one of my favourite squads last season. They have only added to the squad with Pat Cummins, Travis Head, Unadkat, Hasaranga and a few others,” AB de Villiers said on his YouTube channel.
“That’s a team that can win the IPL. I am not going to tell you that they will win the IPL. But, Sunrisers Hyderabad for IPL 2024, watch out,” he added.
De Villiers also insisted on Aiden Markram as Hyderabad’s captain despite the squad’s star-studded lineup. Having played alongside Markram, he praised the South African’s strong leadership skills, believing Markram will excel this season with the talented squad at his disposal.
