Ambati Rayudu highlighted the contrasting fan dynamics in IPL franchises, noting Mumbai Indians’ team-oriented support compared to Chennai Super Kings’ emphasis on backing MS Dhoni first.
In the IPL rivalry between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, both holding five titles each, Ambati Rayudu, who played for both teams, noted a fanbase distinction. On the Ranveer Show 360, Rayudu highlighted Mumbai Indians’ collective support for the team, while in CSK’s case, fans primarily rallied behind MS Dhoni, suggesting that the stadium might not be as filled if Dhoni wasn’t playing.
“As a player, I would say, they support Mumbai Indians more than one player or X player or Y player. They are always for Mumbai Indians. Chennai Super Kings is slightly different. Chennai are Dhoni’s fans first and then CSK. If Mahi bhai is not there, don’t think the stadium would be half full. They are all Mahi bhai fans,” Rayudu said.

Despite not playing an international match for India in years, Dhoni remains an iconic figure. Renowned as one of India’s finest captains, he steered CSK to their fifth IPL title earlier this year. Throughout the IPL’s history, CSK has been synonymous with Dhoni’s leadership, except during their suspension and a brief tenure led by Ravindra Jadeja in 2022.
Speculated to retire after IPL 2023, Dhoni’s return for the upcoming season, retained by CSK, confirmed his anticipated appearance in the yellow jersey for the forthcoming IPL.
