Cameron Green’s record-breaking Rs. 17.5 Crore transfer to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) marks the IPL’s priciest trade deal, altering team dynamics significantly.
Hardik Pandya’s much-anticipated return to Mumbai Indians saw the departure of Cameron Green, who previously played one season for the five-time champions after being acquired for a significant Rs. 17.50 crore in the 2023 auction. Green’s transfer to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) grants MI a considerable Rs. 17.75 crores for the upcoming auction.
MI, left without any players traded back, initially faced a minimal budget of Rs. 0.25 lakh for the auction. However, RCB’s acquisition of Cameron Green from MI altered the scenario. With RCB’s prior release of three significant players – Wanindu Hasaranga, Harshal Patel, and Josh Hazlewood – their highest budget of Rs. 40.75 crore for the IPL 2024 auction was expected.
Green’s transfer deducted Rs. 17.50 crore from RCB’s purse, leaving them with Rs. 23.25 crore. Conversely, MI now possesses Rs. 17.75 crore for the auction commencing on December 19 in Dubai.

Notably, Green delivered an exceptional debut season with MI, amassing 452 runs in 16 matches at an impressive average of 50.22 and a striking 160.28 strike rate, including a century. Additionally, he contributed with six wickets.
A valued all-rounder in global cricket, Green is a regular fixture for Australia across formats, notably part of the victorious 2023 World Cup squad, despite not featuring in the pivotal semifinal or final matches.
