CSK’s CEO Kasi Viswanathan refuted rumors about a Rohit Sharma trade, stating that the team adheres to a no-player trade policy.
Mumbai Indians have stirred controversy by appointing Hardik Pandya as their new captain for the upcoming IPL 2024, replacing Rohit Sharma, who led the team since 2013. The move came after a significant trade deal. In the midst of this, rumors surfaced about Chennai Super Kings (CSK) purportedly approaching MI for a trade involving Rohit Sharma. However, while talking to Cricbuzz during the IPL 2024 auction in Dubai, CSK’s CEO, Kasi Viswanathan, refuted these claims, stating that CSK doesn’t partake in player trades as a policy and confirmed no discussions occurred with Mumbai Indians.
“We don’t trade players as a principle and we also don’t have players to trade with Mumbai Indians. We have not approached them and we don’t intend to either,” Viswanathan said.

MI opted for a transition by replacing their five-time IPL-winning skipper at 36, but CSK has chosen to persist with their 42-year-old captain for another season. Addressing this decision, CSK’s head coach, Stephen Fleming, highlighted their long-standing succession plans for MS Dhoni, spanning over a decade. Fleming emphasized Dhoni’s enduring passion and engagement with the team, expressing confidence in his dedication.
Speaking at the IPL Auction 2024 in Dubai, the coach acknowledged the potential discussions surrounding the decision but affirmed Dhoni’s enthusiasm, signaling their commitment to carry on with the veteran skipper at the helm.
