Fan violence ruined the GT vs. MI IPL opener on March 24th, overshadowing MI’s six-run loss to GT.

The clash between the Gujarat Titans (GT) and Mumbai Indians (MI) on March 24th was as intense as it could get, but off it, a disturbing incident overshadowed the otherwise exciting encounter.

A video widely shared online shows a violent brawl erupting amongst fans in the stands at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. While details and the cause of the fight remain unclear, it was a disturbing incident to remember during this IPL season. Watch the video below:

The match marked the return of Hardik Pandya to Ahmedabad, this time leading the MI side against his former team, GT. MI, who won the toss and elected to bowl first, restricted GT to a total of 168/6. The southpaw Sai Sudharsan scored the most for GT with a well-made 45 runs off 39 balls.

Chasing a modest target of 169, MI’s start was far from ideal. They lost opener Ishan Kishan for a duck in the very first over. Despite valiant efforts from Rohit Sharma (43) and Dewald Brevis (46), MI’s batting faltered when they needed it the most, leading to their eventual six-run defeat.

Moving forward, both GT and MI will aim to put this incident behind them as they focus on their upcoming matches in the IPL. GT will travel to Chennai to face Gaikwad and Co., the defending champions, CSK, on Tuesday, March 26th. Meanwhile, MI will head to Hyderabad for a clash against Pat Cummins’ Sunrisers Hyderabad on March 27th.
