Gautam Gambhir’s emotional and motivational speech to the Kolkata Knight Riders set the tone for a spirited IPL 2024 campaign.
Amidst the preparation for the IPL tourney, a recent video shared by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Gautam Gambhir delivered a heartfelt pep talk to the players ahead of their training session.
Speaking about the pride associated with representing KKR, Gambhir, the recently appointed team mentor, stressed the importance of maintaining the high standards set by the franchise and the importance of the upcoming season. The video was published on KKR’s official X (Twitter) handle.

At the beginning of his speech, Gambhir stated, “We start the season from today whether it’s physically, mentally, skill-wise, give everything possible. You are leading a very reputed and successful franchise. Make sure you train that way, you play that way, and you carry that attitude on the field, that is going to be very, very important.”
Addressing the team, Gambhir urged the players to give their all in every aspect, be it physical, mental, or skill-wise. “One thing I absolutely believe in is giving all the freedom to the players. That is something very important. So people who have played with me know one thing about me that everyone in this group will be treated equally. There’s no senior/junior. No domestic/international because we have got one mission and that is to win the IPL. So everyone needs to follow that one simple path. On 26th May, we should be there, giving everything possible. And it starts from today,” the former KKR skipper said.
For Gambhir, returning to KKR holds emotional significance as it marks a homecoming to the franchise where he spent the majority of his playing career. Having led KKR to their maiden IPL title in 2012 and securing their second title in 2014, Gambhir’s connection with the team runs deep. Hence, the words from Gambhir were heartfelt and true.
As KKR prepares for the upcoming IPL 2024 season, Gambhir’s motivational words serve as a driving force for the players. With three games scheduled in the initial phase, KKR will kick off their campaign against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 23rd at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
