Gujarat Titans’ Director, Vikram Solanki, confirmed Hardik Pandya’s wish to reunite with his former IPL franchise, Mumbai Indians, after the official trade.
Director of Cricket at Gujarat Titans (GT), Vikram Solanki, disclosed that after the official confirmation of the trade, Hardik Pandya conveyed his wish to reunite with his former Indian Premier League (IPL) team, Mumbai Indians (MI). The IPL formalized the dual trade, transferring Pandya back to Mumbai while Cameron Green was traded to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
Solanki, in a recent statement, conveyed his best wishes to Pandya for his future pursuits, recognizing Pandya’s pivotal role in GT’s inaugural IPL victory in 2022. Despite a rain-affected defeat against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 2023 final, Solanki praised Pandya’s captaincy, highlighting the team’s accomplishment of reaching consecutive finals.
“As the first captain of Gujarat Titans, Hardik Pandya has helped the franchise deliver two fantastic seasons that resulted in winning one IPL championship (2022) and one appearance in the final (2023). He has now expressed a desire to return to his original team Mumbai Indians. We respect his decision and wish him all the very best in his future endeavors,” Solanki said.

Hardik’s commendable tenure with Gujarat Titans led to his temporary captaincy for India’s T20I squad in the absence of Rohit Sharma. He’s now a strong candidate to succeed Rohit as India’s T20I captain ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup. However, uncertainty looms over Hardik’s captaincy for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024 since Rohit remains their retained skipper. Hardik had a seven-season journey with MI, capturing 4 titles for the franchise.
Gujarat Titans appointed Shubman Gill, a standout player from the previous season, as their captain for the IPL 2024 season.
