Chepauk Stadium might host the IPL 2024 final, continuing the tradition of holding the grand finale at the defending champions’ home venue.
Reports suggest that the iconic M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, also known as Chepauk, in Chennai is the frontrunner to host the grand finale of the IPL 2024 season.
According to a BCCI official speaking to PTI, the decision follows a well-established tradition: “The IPL Governing Council has followed the tradition of holding the opening game and final at the home venue of last year’s defending champions — in this case the Chennai Super Kings.”
The Chennai Super Kings clinched their fifth IPL title in a thrilling encounter against the Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad last year. The memories of Ravindra Jadeja’s match-winning six that sealed the victory for CSK are still fresh in the minds of cricket enthusiasts.
While the grand finale is likely to be held at Chepauk, the prestigious Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad might not miss out entirely on the action. According to reports, Ahmedabad will play host to both Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator, crucial playoff matches leading up to the grand finale. Additionally, Chepauk might also host Qualifier 2, creating a doubleheader for the passionate Chennai crowd.
However, it’s important to note that this is still based on reports, and official confirmation from the BCCI is awaited. Meanwhile, the home team of Chepauk, that is, CSK, has started their IPL 2024 journey well, as they sealed a convincing victory over RCB on March 22nd. The men in yellow will be next seen playing against the Gujarat Titans on March 26th.
