As per reports from Cricbuzz, Rishabh Pant is set for an IPL 2024 comeback, likely leading Delhi Capitals, following confirmation by the franchise’s management.
Reports from Cricbuzz indicate Rishabh Pant’s likely return to IPL 2024 as the Delhi Capitals’ leader after nearly a year of absence, with management confirming his comeback. Pant, currently undergoing rehabilitation at the NCA, aims to regain fitness by February’s end, but his IPL participation depends on NCA clearance. The Indian wicketkeeper-batsman is expected to rejoin the cricketing scene, pending approval from NCA managers, for the upcoming IPL season.
After undergoing knee surgery and enduring injuries to his back and ankles post a New Year’s Eve accident, doubts linger regarding Pant’s ability to handle wicketkeeping duties in the IPL matches. Franchise officials mentioned he’ll keep wickets only upon clearance from the BCCI; otherwise, he’ll focus on batting and fielding.
Contrary to notions of using him solely as an Impact Player, a franchise official assured that if he doesn’t keep wickets, Pant will lead the team while being present on the field. His absence significantly impacted Delhi Capitals’ performance last IPL season, landing them in ninth place. The team now pins hopes on his return to steer a change in their fortunes.
Since January 2023, Pant has missed 62 international matches, including Tests against Australia, the 2023 IPL, series in the West Indies, Ireland, the Asia Cup, and the World Cup. Additionally, he’s likely to miss upcoming series against Afghanistan and England, and remains unavailable for the ongoing South Africa series.
