The IPL 2024 introduced a crucial adjustment, permitting bowlers to deliver two bouncers per over, a move aimed at enhancing equilibrium between bat and ball.
The IPL 2024 season is gearing up for a game-changing shift by allowing bowlers to deliver two bouncers per over, aiming to create a more balanced contest between bat and ball. Initially, safety concerns hindered this alteration, but after successful trials and persistent advocacy, the change will come into effect.
Jaydev Unadkat, a seasoned player with multiple IPL teams, notably supported this adjustment. He emphasized the significance of this rule, believing it offers bowlers an added edge and challenges batters to improve their skills against bouncers.
“I do feel two bouncers an over is very much useful, and I feel it’s one of those things which gives the bowler an added advantage over batters. Someone who is weak against bouncers will have to be better at it and then it will give the bowler one more weapon in their armoury. So, I feel it’s a very small change with a huge impact and as a bowler I feel it’s very important to have that rule,” Unadkat said to ESPNcricinfo.
The IPL’s continued implementation of the Impact Player rule, introduced in 2023, necessitates teams to nominate four substitutes during the toss, with one designated as the Impact Player, alongside the playing XI. This regulation maintains a cap of four overseas players in the XI, a long-standing principle.
Notably, the rule’s influence has reshaped team strategies, notably impacting the roles of all-rounders like Venkatesh Iyer, Vijay Shankar, and Shivam Dube, who have primarily showcased their batting prowess, reflecting the evolving team compositions.
