Kieron Pollard supported Ishan Kishan despite his first-ball duck in the MI vs. GT IPL opener, expressing confidence in Kishan’s abilities.

Ishan Kishan’s return to competitive cricket was not the fairytale comeback he might have envisioned. The wicketkeeper-batter for the Mumbai Indians (MI) succumbed to a four-ball duck in their opening IPL 2024 match. However, he was backed by Kieron Pollard, as the former MI player gave reasons to justify Kishan’s poor performance.

Despite Kishan’s disappointing start to the IPL season, Mumbai Indians batting coach Kieron Pollard came out in strong support of the young player. Following MI’s narrow six-run defeat to the Gujarat Titans, Pollard expressed his confidence in Kishan’s abilities.

“Playing international sports is really tough. It’s not as easy as people think. Yes, he (Ishan) didn’t score tonight, and we can look at all sorts of different things. But it’s an IPL, a long tournament. He’s an experienced guy within our setup. And we expect big things from Ishan,” Pollard told the press during a post-match interaction.

Pollard shared that Kishan is calm and confident and might perform better in the upcoming matches. “He’s in a good space. He has been practising well. And he has been doing fairly decently. So hopefully, within the next couple of games, you can see a great performance from him. And then all of you guys will continue to laud his praise when he does that,” Pollard added.

With the backing of his coach and his experience of more than 90 matches in the IPL, the southpaw will be looking to bounce back stronger in his next outing against the Sunrisers Hyderabad on March 27th.
