KKR secured Mitchell Starc for a groundbreaking Rs 24.75 crore in the IPL 2024 auction, making him the IPL’s priciest player, surpassing Pat Cummins’ Rs 20.5 crore deal with SRH earlier in the day.
Mitchell Starc, with a base price of Rs 2 crore, re-entered the IPL after eight years, joining Kolkata Knight Riders for a record-breaking Rs 24.75 crore. The bid eclipsed Pat Cummins’ Rs 20.5 crore deal with SRH on the same day, becoming the IPL’s costliest player in history.
In the auction battle for Starc, Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals initiated the bids, reaching 9.6 crore until DC stepped back. Kolkata Knight Riders entered at that point, and MI withdrew at 9.8 crore, allowing Gujarat Titans to enter. The tense showdown ensued between GT and KKR, both vying for the prized bowler’s services, with KKR eventually securing Starc for a record 24.75 crore.
Starc’s last IPL appearance was in 2015 for RCB, where he took 20 wickets in 13 games with impressive stats. However, since then, due to various reasons like injuries, he hasn’t been part of the tournament. In 2018, KKR signed him for Rs. 9.40 crore, but he withdrew due to injury. His T20 comeback for Australia was over a year ago, having taken 73 wickets in 58 matches at an average of 22.91.
