Rajasthan Royals’ spinner Ravichandran Ashwin predicts a heated bidding tussle for Shahrukh Khan, estimating his auction value at a minimum of ₹12 or ₹13 crore.
Ravichandran Ashwin foresees intense interest from franchises like Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans for Shahrukh Khan in the IPL 2024 auction. Considering the departures of Ambati Rayudu and Hardik Pandya, Ashwin highlighted Shahrukh’s potential as a power player, estimating his auction value to potentially exceed ₹12 or ₹13 crore due to his past performance at Punjab Kings.
In the IPL 2022 auction, Shahrukh Khan from Tamil Nadu was retained by Punjab Kings (PBKS) for ₹9 crore. Throughout the previous season, he played all 14 games, accumulating 156 runs at an impressive strike rate of 165.96. However, Shahrukh Khan is now available for bidding in the IPL 2024 mini-auction following his release from the Punjab franchise.
“I can definitely see a war between CSK and GT for Shahrukh Khan because Gujarat have just lost middle batter/finisher Hardik and they need a power player. Shahrukh was at the Punjab Kings at ₹9 crores, and I felt he showed his skills pretty well. Is it a decent release? Because I think he is going to go for at least ₹12 or ₹13 crore again,” Ashwin said in his latest YouTube video.
During the IPL 2022 auction, Chennai initiated the bidding for Shahrukh Khan, sparking a spirited auction battle against Punjab. CSK progressively raised their bid to ₹8.75 crore, but Punjab Kings clinched the deal by offering ₹9 crore.
Ashwin also highlighted Shahrukh Khan’s release from Punjab Kings and speculated that Chennai Super Kings might prioritize acquiring him over Mitchell Starc at the IPL 2024 auction. He suggested that Shahrukh’s local connection could entice CSK, enhancing the team’s composition.
“CSK might even take a chance of missing out on Mitchell Starc to get Shahrukh Khan because they don’t have a local player or a presence. They went for Shahrukh Khan in the mega auction, and that’s why I’m guessing so,” Ashwin added.
