Amidst escalating trade talks, reports suggest that Hardik Pandya, the Gujarat Titans skipper, might stage a surprising comeback to the Mumbai Indians for IPL 2024.
Reports suggest Hardik Pandya might return to his former team, Mumbai Indians (MI), for IPL 2024 in a potential swap involving Rohit Sharma or Jofra Archer. News18 indicates Pandya could lead MI, with Rohit possibly captaining Gujarat, or Rohit remaining with MI if Archer moves to Gujarat.
This unexpected move hints at Pandya assuming captaincy in 2025, a surprising shift from Rohit, who’s been synonymous with MI since 2011, taking over as captain in 2013 and securing their first IPL title.

Rohit Sharma led Mumbai Indians to victories in 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020, while Hardik Pandya joined MI in 2015 and contributed to four IPL title triumphs. After MI released Pandya before IPL 2022, Gujarat Titans acquired him for Rs 15 crore and appointed him captain, securing their debut IPL win. Despite reaching the IPL 2023 final, Gujarat lost to Chennai Super Kings.
If Jofra Archer moves to GT, Pandya and Rohit may reunite. Pandya, part of the international leadership group, served as Rohit’s deputy in the 2023 World Cup and has captained India extensively in T20Is since 2022.
