Ruturaj Gaikwad embraced the challenge of leading CSK after Dhoni, expressing confidence and readiness in a video posted on the team’s social media channels.
Following MS Dhoni’s decision to step down as captain, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) named Ruturaj Gaikwad as his replacement. This leadership change has prompted reactions from several cricket experts, current players, the CSK coach, and most importantly, the new captain himself.
In a video posted on the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) social media channels, newly appointed captain Ruturaj Gaikwad expressed his honour and confidence in leading the team forward after MS Dhoni’s departure.
“It feels good. Obviously, it’s a privilege to lead the team. It’s a huge responsibility, and I am really excited because of the kind of group we have. Everyone’s experienced enough, so not much to worry about,” said Gaikwad in a video posted by CSK on X (Twitter). Watch the video below:
The 27-year-old opener acknowledged the strong support system around him, including senior players like MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, and Ajinkya Rahane. “I have Mahi Bhai in the team, Jaddu Bhai (Ravindra Jadeja), and Ajju Bhai (Ajinkya Rahane), so there is nothing much to worry about. I am just looking forward to enjoying it,” said Gaikwad.
Gaikwad, known for his stylish batting, has impressive credentials for his new role. He has amassed nearly 1800 runs in his IPL career, with a highest score of 101 not out. Last year, he shone brightly, scoring 590 runs in 16 games with a formidable strike rate of nearly 150. His leadership experience includes captaining the Indian team to victory at the 2023 Asian Games and leading his state side, Maharashtra.
With the opening match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on March 22nd, Gaikwad appears prepared and optimistic. The CSK camp will be eager to see how the skipper navigates the challenges of captaincy and continues his strong batting form in this season of the IPL.
