Gujarat Titans skipper Shubman Gill was fined for a slow over-rate in their second IPL match against Chennai Super Kings.
Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill was fined for the team’s slow over rate during their IPL 2024 match against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on March 26th. The penalty marked the first offence of the season under the IPL’s regulations regarding minimum over-rate offences.
The fine was inmposed after GT failed to bowl their overs within the stipulated time against CSK. Unfortunately, Gill, the skipper, was fined Rs 12 lakhs for breaching the ICC’s Code of Conduct regarding a slow over-rate offence.
However, for Gill and his team, the slow over rate was not the only setback in the match. CSK emerged victorious, continuing their winning streak in the tournament, while GT marked their first loss.
Speaking of the match, openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and debutant Rachin Ravindra set the tone for CSK’s strong batting performance. Ravindra smashed a quickfire 46 off just 20 deliveries, while Gaikwad played a steady hand, anchoring the innings.
Despite a brief fightback from GT bowlers, CSK continued to pile on the runs. GT spinner Rashid Khan bagged two wickets but proved expensive. Shivam Dube provided further push in the middle order, ensuring CSK posted a formidable total of 206.
In reply, GT’s batting collapsed. Only Sai Sudharsan (37 runs) showed resistance as they slumped to 143/8 and CSK secured a convincing 63-run victory.
As CSK continues to maintain their winning streak, the men in yellow as well as Shubman Gill and Co. will be next seen on March 31st, facing the Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad, respectively.
