According to reports from Cricbuzz, numerous prominent figures have signed up for the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction, but notably absent is Jofra Archer. A substantial pool of 1,166 players, including elite talents like Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Travis Head, Daryl Mitchell, and Rachin Ravindra, has submitted their names for consideration. The auction, slated for December 19 in Dubai, anticipates a robust bidding war among franchises. However, certain absences draw attention; while Josh Hazlewood, who is uncertain about part of the league and has registered, Wanindu Hasaranga’s name is notably absent.
Reports from ESPN Cricinfo further hint that seven players from Australia’s ODI World Cup squad, including Cummins, Head, Starc, Hazlewood, Smith, Inglis, and Abbott, have set their base price at INR 2 crore. Meanwhile, New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra, who impressed in the World Cup, has set his base price at INR 50 lakhs.
The IPL auction features 830 players from India and 336 from overseas. The breakdown includes 212 capped, 909 uncapped, and 45 Associate players. Among the 830 Indian players, 18 are capped, featuring names like Varun Aaron, KS Bharat, Kedar Jadhav, and others. Notably, only Harshal Patel, Kedar Jadhav, Shardul Thakur, and Umesh Yadav, previously released by their franchises, have set their base price at Rs 2 crore, while the remaining 14 capped players have a reserve price of Rs 50 lakh.
BCCI awaits election dates to finalize the schedule, potentially running from mid-March to mid-May. If affected by elections, matches might shift abroad. In 2019’s general elections, IPL remained in India throughout, but logistical changes might occur this time if needed.
