Virat Kohli’s humorous remark to Harpreet Brar added a light moment in the RCB vs PBKS IPL match that provided relief from the otherwise intense match.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) finally got their IPL 2024 campaign off the ground with a thrilling four-wicket win against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Bengaluru on Monday. Besides the thrilling encounter between the two teams, the match also shared several lighthearted moments, one of which was the funny exchange between Virat Kohli and young spinner Harpreet Brar.

With 74 runs needed in the last eight overs, Kohli and Glenn Maxwell were tasked with guiding RCB to victory. As Brar came in to bowl the 13th over, Kohli’s comment from the non-striker’s end was picked up on the stump mic, urging Brar to slow down, saying, “Ruk jaa, usko saans to lene de (let him breathe).” This playful banter brought a smile to Maxwell’s face as he stood at the striker’s end. However, Brar remained composed despite the exchange and had the last laugh, dismissing Maxwell with the very first ball of the over. This continued Brar’s dominance over Maxwell, having dismissed him four times in the IPL.

Interestingly, this wasn’t the first time Kohli had made such a comment this season. During the IPL opener against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Kohli was heard saying the same thing to Ravindra Jadeja when he came in to bowl against Cameron Green.

Coming to the match, despite Brar’s impressive bowling figures of 2-13, including the crucial wicket of Rajat Patidar, the lack of support from other PBKS bowlers proved costly. Kohli, on the other hand, stole the show with a match-winning knock of 77 runs off just 49 balls, earning him the Player of the Match award.

Making his IPL debut in 2019, Brar has played 30 matches, bagging 21 wickets, and will be next seen playing against LSG on March 30th. Meanwhile, Du Plessis and Co. will take on the Kolkata Knight Riders on March 29th.
