Wanindu Hasaranga’s manager gave an update on the status of the player as he was injured in the leg and was unable to join the initial matches of the team in the IPL 2024.
The arrival of star Sri Lankan all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) remains uncertain. Hasaranga is a key player in SRH’s spin attack, and though the team acquired him for Rs 1.50 crore in the mini-auction, Hasaranga has yet to join the Hyderabad camp.
Notably, Hasaranga’s delayed arrival stemmed from a chronic pain in his left heel. He missed SRH’s initial two matches and is scheduled to undergo a medical examination in Dubai on Sunday, March 31st, to address this persistent issue.
However, in a recent development, Hasaranga’s manager gave an update on the status of the player. While the manager assured his eventual arrival, a concrete and promising timeframe was missing. “He will join sooner than later. All I can say is he will definitely join the team,” Hasaranga’s manager told Cricbuzz on March 29th.
Rumours had it that Hasaranga might be unhappy with the significantly lower salary compared to his previous stint with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), where he earned Rs 10.50 crore. However, his manager swiftly dismissed these claims. “If money was a factor, we could have enrolled for a Rs 2 crore base price. Besides, fewer games mean less money. He has to take care of his ankle. He is also the captain of the national team,” the manager clarified.
SRH is currently relying on Indian spinners Mayank Markande and Shahbaz Ahmed in Hasaranga’s absence. The franchise will be rooting for his quick return, as his experience and skills could significantly strengthen their bowling attack.
Meanwhile, SRH looks strong on the IPL points table as it currently sits in the fourth position. Pat Cummins and Co. will next face the Gujarat Titans on March 31st at 3:30 p.m. IST at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
