During an event, CSK skipper MS Dhoni responded cheekily to a Royal Challengers Bangalore fan’s request to support their team in the upcoming IPL 2024, acknowledging RCB as a strong squad.
After clinching the IPL title with CSK last season and confirming his participation in the upcoming 2024 season, MS Dhoni responded to a Royal Challengers Bangalore fan’s plea to support their team. Acknowledging RCB’s strength, Dhoni diplomatically emphasized that all IPL teams are strong. He highlighted the parity among teams when they possess good players, suggesting that unpredictability often defines IPL matches, wishing success to all teams while affirming his primary allegiance to CSK.
“They are a very good team. But what you also need to know is that in cricket, everything doesn’t go according to plan. So If you’re talking about the IPL, all the 10 teams, more often than not, if they have the good players, all of them are very strong teams,” said Dhoni.
“The problem arises if you’re missing a few players because of injury or reasons like that. So they have a very good team and everyone has a fair chance in the IPL. As of now, I have so many things to worry about in my own team. I’d like to wish every team all the very best. But I can’t really do more than that because imagine me going out of the way to help other teams, how will our fans feel?” the skipper added.

CSK has a historical edge over RCB, winning in the 2011 IPL final by 58 runs and securing victories in 20 out of 31 encounters.
Before IPL 2024’s retention deadline, CSK released eight players and acquired replacements including Daryl Mitchell (Rs 14 crore), Sameer Rizvi (Rs 8.4 crore), Shardul Thakur (Rs 4 crore), Rachin Ravindra (Rs 1.8 crore), Mustafizur Rahman (Rs 2 crore), and Avanish Rao Aravelly (Rs 20 lakh).
On the other side, RCB strengthened their roster with six purchases: Alzarri Joseph, Yash Dayal, Tom Curran, Lockie Ferguson, Swapnil Singh, and Saurav Chauhan, aiming to break their IPL title drought in the upcoming season.
