Irfan Pathan praised Royal Challengers Bangalore’s incredibly loyal fanbase, highlighting their unwavering support despite the team’s lack of IPL trophies.
Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan commended the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for their remarkable fan support, despite the team’s inability to clinch an IPL title. Despite several close calls, including appearances in the 2009, 2011, and 2016 finals, RCB has yet to secure a championship victory.
In an interview with Star Sports, Pathan highlighted the unique bond between RCB and their fans, describing it as unlike any other franchise-fan relationship he has witnessed.
“I have never seen a franchise-fan relationship like RCB and their fans. They have the most loyal fanbase in the entire world. They haven’t won a single trophy. They came close a couple of times to winning that trophy,” Pathan said.
Last year, RCB narrowly missed the playoffs despite a promising season. Reflecting on the memorable 2016 IPL season, Irfan Pathan reminisced about Virat Kohli’s extraordinary batting, amassing a record-breaking 973 runs.
Despite Kohli’s stellar performance, RCB fell short in the final against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, losing by a mere eight runs.
“2016 was a very special season for him and RCB. I thought that was the year to win. If Virat Kohli and RCB win the title, that will be the biggest moment of IPL history, not just RCB history,” he said.
For the upcoming season, RCB has strengthened their squad with Cameron Green’s trade and Alzarri Joseph’s auction purchase, aiming to break their trophy drought.
