After winning the PSL 9 final, Islamabad United players, including Shadab Khan, Imad Wasim, and Hunain Shah, showed solidarity by waving Palestinian flags during their victory lap.
Islamabad United, led by Shadab Khan, won their third PSL title by defeating Multan Sultans at Karachi’s National Stadium. After restricting Multan Sultans to 159/9, courtesy of Imad Wasim’s five-wicket haul, Islamabad United comfortably chased the 160-run target in 20 overs, with Martin Guptill and Azam Khan making significant contributions.
Following their last-ball victory, the team displayed solidarity with Palestine by waving Palestinian flags during their victory lap. Viral videos showed Pakistani players, including Shadab Khan, Imad Wasim, and Naseem Shah, walking around the stadium with Palestine flags. They were joined by others like Hunain Shah and Ubaid Shah, demonstrating their support.
In the post-match presentation, Player of the Tournament winner Shadab Khan, expressed the difficulty of watching matches from the sidelines, feeling he could have utilized his time better with the bat at lower batting positions. Shadab, amassing 305 runs and 14 wickets, noted the challenge of not feeling pressure while playing but experiencing it while observing.
“Watching the match is tough for me. In the middle I don’t feel pressure, but watching it from outside is tough. I make life difficult for people next to me as well, so I don’t sit with batters who are supposed to walk in next,” Shadab said.
Pakistan cricketers like Agha Salman, Babar Azam, and Mohammad Rizwan have openly supported Palestine during the Gaza conflict. Earlier, Rizwan had faced criticism after dedicating his century in the 2023 World Cup to Palestinian victims. Their solidarity has been consistent amidst ongoing tensions between Israel and Palestine.
