Aakash Chopra pointed out Virat Kohli’s overly aggressive approach against MI that might have caused him to fall prey to Jasprit Bumrah in the third over.
RCB could not contain MI’s onslaught on April 11th, and apparently, Virat Kohli also did not have a great night with his bat. Cricket commentator Aakash Chopra believes Kohli’s over-aggressive batting led to his dismissal against Bumrah in the IPL match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Mumbai Indians (MI).
Kohli was dismissed early (3 runs) by Bumrah, who went on to take a five-wicket haul and help MI secure a comfortable win. In a YouTube video, Chopra pointed out that Kohli might have chosen the wrong approach against Bumrah.
“We were discussing before this match that the focus would be on Virat Kohli vs. Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah had dismissed him four times before this match. Virat Kohli was his first IPL wicket. Here, it seemed like Virat Kohli was trying too much because it is in his mind that they score 180–190, but nothing happens with that. So let’s try to aim higher. When you do that, it works against others, but it doesn’t work out against Bumrah,” said Aakash, as quoted by Sportskeeda.

After pointing out Kohli, Chopra praised Bumrah for his consistent bowling, calling him a “match-winner” who restricted batters and took crucial wickets. “That was the first of five wickets Bumrah took. You have a total spell of four overs, and he picked up five wickets in that. Bumrah has become the bowler who makes the match a 16-over affair,” opined the commentator.
Nevertheless, it was pretty much Bumrah’s spell that restricted RCB to 196. MI batters Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav led with the bat to pull off an easy chase for the team with 27 balls to spare.
