Jacob Oram has been appointed as the new New Zealand bowling coach, succeeding Shane Jurgensen, after previously supporting the team in various series.

Jacob Oram, former NZ and Central Stags all-rounder, has been appointed as the new bowling coach for the New Zealand cricket team, succeeding Shane Jurgensen. Oram, who played 229 international matches for New Zealand, officially joins the coaching staff after previously serving as a bowling coach during the team’s 2022 Test tour of Bangladesh, the T20I series against Australia earlier this year, and the ICC T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies.

Oram expressed his excitement about returning to a team that has played a significant role in his life and is eager to contribute to its future success. He was enthusiastic about working with the emerging talent within the bowling lineup.

“I’m really excited to have the opportunity to be involved with the BLACKCAPS again. To be back involved with a team that means so much to me and has been a big part of my life is a real honor,” Oram was quoted as saying on the NZ Cricket official page.

“The recent opportunities I’ve had have been a great insight into where this team is going and I’m excited to continue that work in the coming seasons. There’s a fresh new wave of talent coming through in the BLACKCAPS bowling ranks and I hope that I can share my knowledge and experience to help best prepare them for the challenges of international cricket,” he added.

Jacob Oram’s coaching journey began in 2014 as the bowling coach for New Zealand A, eventually leading him to serve as the White Ferns’s bowling coach from 2018 until the end of the 2021 ICC Women’s World Cup in New Zealand. Last summer, Oram was appointed head coach of the Central Hinds, guiding them to their first Dream11 Super Smash final since 2016. His coaching experience also includes roles as assistant coach of the Northern Warriors in the Abu Dhabi T10 league and as the bowling coach for Mumbai Indians Cape Town in the SA20.

During his 11-year international playing career, Oram represented New Zealand in 33 Tests, 160 ODIs, and 36 T20Is, featuring in three ICC ODI World Cups and four T20 World Cups. The former all-rounder will officially begin his tenure on October 7, 2024.
