Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer stated in a YouTube video that Jasprit Bumrah should keep playing continuously to maintain his rhythm and not lose momentum before the Super Eight stage.
Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer has opposed resting Jasprit Bumrah ahead of the Super Eight stage of the T20 World Cup 2024. Despite widespread discussions about managing Bumrah’s workload, especially after his Player of the Match performances against Ireland and Pakistan, Jaffer believes continuous play is crucial for maintaining the fast bowler’s rhythm.
In a recent video on his YouTube channel, Jaffer emphasized the importance of keeping Bumrah in action to ensure he remains in top form for the later stages of the tournament.
“The more Bumrah keeps playing, the more he will be in rhythm. You do not want Bumrah to lose his rhythm, such an important player. So, I do not think it is needed to rest him,” said Jaffer.
Amidst complaints from international media outlets that Team India had an unfair advantage by knowing their semi-final venue (Providence Stadium, Guyana) in advance, Jaffer has also refuted these claims. He underscored the importance of performance and error reduction in high-pressure games, stating that the venue’s impact is minimal.
Jaffer then pointed out that India’s initial matches in New York were challenging, and despite bringing four spinners, the conditions did not favor spin bowling, negating any perceived advantage.
“Even when you know what venue you’re going to play at, it doesn’t matter. You have to perform well on the day. India have started their campaign in tough conditions in New York. You’ve brought four spinners but these are different conditions, so definitely it’s not an advantage,” he concluded.
