As per reports, Jake Fraser-McGurk and Matthew Short might be named as travelling reserves for Australia’s T20 World Cup squad.
Australia’s T20 World Cup squad is set to be strengthened by two travelling reserves, Jake Fraser-McGurk and Matthew Short. The 22-year-old McGurk, despite his impressive IPL form with the Delhi Capitals, missed out on the main squad due to Australia’s established top order of David Warner, Travis Head, and captain Mitchell Marsh.
Short, a batting all-rounder who recently shone in the Big Bash League, is a familiar face, having played in nine of Australia’s last 14 T20Is. Interestingly, this decision might see the light despite initial suggestions of just one reserve by Australia’s chief selector, George Bailey.
“Australia’s chair of selectors, George Bailey, had suggested that Australia would carry just one reserve to the Caribbean when the provisional squad was announced, but they are likely to add a second with the in-form Fraser-McGurk set to be named alongside Short,” ESPNCricinfo reported.
The main squad will depart for the Caribbean on Thursday for a pre-tournament training camp in Trinidad. This camp includes practice matches against Namibia and the West Indies on May 28th and 30th, respectively.

Players currently competing in the IPL playoffs, including Head, Cameron Green, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Glenn Maxwell, will join the squad later.
“Marsh, Hazlewood, Inglis, Zampa, and Agar have all been training together in Brisbane over the past two weeks, alongside Short. Marsh has reportedly recovered from his hamstring injury but hasn’t resumed bowling yet,” the report added.
