James Anderson is set to retire from international cricket following the upcoming first Test against West Indies at Lord’s on July 10, with England considering him for a mentorship role to guide young pacers.

James Anderson, the legendary England fast bowler, is set to retire from international cricket following the first Test against West Indies at Lord’s on July 10. At 41 years old, Anderson was encouraged to retire as England plans to restructure its squad under new leadership.

Despite retiring from international duty, Anderson may continue to contribute to English cricket as a mentor for young pacers, a role he has been offered but has yet to confirm. There is speculation that he might also continue playing county cricket for Lancashire, although nothing has been decided.

Rob Key, England’s managing director, expressed optimism about Anderson’s potential continued involvement in cricket, highlighting his valuable experience and the options available to him post-retirement.

“When we asked him, he was keen. He is going to have a lot of options. English cricket would be very lucky if he chooses to stay in the game. What he does with Lancashire will probably work out after the Lord’s Test. We’ve got some conversations to have after to find out what he thinks is the best thing to do. Everything so far has been him gearing up for this Test match” Key was quoted as saying by BBC.

Meanwhile, England has included uncapped Jamie Smith in their squad for the upcoming series against West Indies. Rob Key praised Smith’s talent and potential for a successful international career.

“Sometimes you’re selecting people for what they’re going to be as well, and where you think they can progress to. It’s very much the start for Jamie Smith. We feel he’s going to be a fantastic international cricketer,” he said.

The decision on Anderson’s future will be made after his retirement, with discussions planned to determine the best course of action.
