Jason Roy and Iftikhar Ahmed engaged in a heated verbal exchange during the Quetta Gladiators versus Multan Sultans match in PSL 2024.

A heated exchange erupted between batters Jason Roy of the Quetta Gladiators and Iftikhar Ahmed of the Multan Sultans during their Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024 match on Tuesday in Karachi.

The incident unfolded in the early stages of the Quetta Gladiators’ chase. Roy, dismissed for just three runs, was caught LBW by Multan Sultans’ David Willey in the third over. During a discussion about the LBW review with his partner Saud Shakeel, Roy had a verbal spat with Iftikhar Ahmed. Details of the exact comments remain undisclosed, but the conversation provoked Roy. Watch the video below:

The situation escalated as Roy approached Iftikhar in the middle of the pitch, visibly upset. Multan Sultans’ captain, Mohammad Rizwan, intervened quickly, attempting to defuse the situation and drive Roy away. Other players also joined in, calming both Roy and Iftikhar. Roy ultimately walked back to the pavilion without opting for a review.

This on-field clash overshadowed Quetta’s batting performance. The team struggled throughout their innings, losing wickets in quick succession. Only Omair Yousuf managed a significant score, reaching 37 runs before being dismissed. Meanwhile, the Multan Sultans’ bowlers capitalised on the fragile batting display. David Willey and Usama Mir each claimed three wickets, restricting Quetta to a total of 106 runs.

Despite the loss, the Quetta Gladiators secured their place in the playoffs. They will face Islamabad United in the eliminator. Multan Sultans, on the other hand, enjoyed a comfortable victory and finished the season atop the league table. They will now play against Peshawar Zalmi in Qualifier 1, leading to the PSL final.
