Basit Ali noted that Jasprit Bumrah’s unique bowling action makes him effective on any surface, even a cement track, and that India’s focus on the WTC means they won’t take risks with team selection.
As Team India prepares for their two-match Test series against Bangladesh, former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali praised Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah, highlighting his ability to take wickets regardless of the conditions. According to Ali, Bumrah’s unique bowling style makes him an exceptional bowler who doesn’t rely on pitch conditions to succeed.
“Because Bumrah and Siraj are the kind of bowlers that even on a flat track they can get the ball to reverse and get wickets. Especially Bumrah. Even if you play Bumrah on a cement track, his action is so awkward that he deceives the batters,” he said.
“The other bowlers depend on their form and rhythm. He comes and just like that he gets the batter out and then another. He is very deceptive, his slower one is accurate and his yorker is as well. The same kind of bowling he does in the death overs in the white-ball games, he can do it in Test cricket as well,” Basit Ali added.
Discussing India’s approach to the upcoming series, he suggested that the team’s main focus is on the World Test Championship (WTC). For bilateral series against teams like Bangladesh or New Zealand, the Indian team may experiment with some players, but the core group for the WTC will remain solid. As for upcoming talents, Ali pointed out that these players are likely to be part of the India A setup.
“They don’t care whether it is Nepal, Bangladesh or Pakistan. The other bilateral series that are going on, will give some of the boys a chance. But not in the ICC event. They will go with a solid squad, be it a home series against Bangladesh, New Zealand or a tour to Australia,” said the former Pakistan batter.
“The A-team on the other hand who are going to Australia is where all the other players the team wants to check would be playing. I am telling you this around 10 days before but still, I think India will go with the spin-route and I think they should stick with that,” he added.

Earlier, PTI reports had also suggested that Musheer Khan, who impressed in the Duleep Trophy 2024, will join the A squad traveling to Australia ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, where they will gain valuable experience.
