Jasprit Bumrah is reportedly fit to bat despite a back spasm, but a decision on his bowling will be made on Day 3 morning.
Jasprit Bumrah is expected to return to action on Day 3 of the final Test against Australia in Sydney. The stand-in captain was sidelined during the second day’s play due to back spasms, leaving fans and the team concerned about his availability.
Bumrah, who has been exceptional throughout the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with 32 wickets in four matches, managed just one over in the second session on Day 2 before leaving the field. He was later taken to the hospital for precautionary scans, which revealed no major issues. The pacer made a brief return to the pavilion in the evening but did not participate further on Day 2.
Reports from the Times of India suggest that Bumrah is likely to bat if required on Day 3, though his availability as a bowler remains uncertain. The team management will evaluate his condition in the morning before making a final decision.
“Bumrah was taken for a precautionary scan after a back spasm, but nothing serious at the moment. He should be okay to bat, but a final call on bowling will be taken on basis of how he feels in the morning,” TOI quoted a well-placed source as saying.
Meanwhile, India ended Day 2 at 141/6 in Sydney, with Ravindra Jadeja on eight and Washington Sundar on six. Earlier, India dismissed Australia for 181, gaining a slim four-run first-innings lead. Prasidh Krishna (3-42), Mohammed Siraj (3-51), and Nitish Kumar Reddy (2-32) stepped up in Jasprit Bumrah’s absence. Rishabh Pant’s 50 off 29 balls, including a six on his first delivery, boosted India’s total. Trailing 2-1, India must win this Test to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
