Former Pakistan captain Waqar Younis praised Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling prowess, calling him a “bowling genius.”
Jasprit Bumrah’s fiery spell secured a narrow victory for India against Pakistan in a nail-biting T20 World Cup Group A encounter held in New York on Sunday. His exceptional bowling earned him the Player of the Match award, and cricket legends were quick to shower praise on the 30-year-old.
Former Pakistan captain Waqar Younis hailed Bumrah as a “bowling genius” who strikes fear in the hearts of his opponents. “I have played against many greats of the game. But when I look at Bumrah, the kind of action he has got. Why cannot they hit Bumrah’s full tosses? It is because of the fear of his name. He puts terror in the batters’ minds. Even if he bowls full tosses, it is hard to hit because the batters are not expecting that,” Waqar told Star Sports.
“On top of that, the whippy action, the hyper-extension is very hard to pick. He is one of the bowlers, who is very hard to pick, he is a genius. He bowls well in any kind of conditions. He has got everything covered, he is world-class,” added Waqar.
Irfan Pathan, India’s former all-rounder, lauded Bumrah as India’s most dependable bowler in the T20 format. “He’s our bank. He’s so reliable. You know he’ll always deliver accurate lines and lengths, keeping India in the game. That’s a special ability. He’s the best white-ball bowler India has ever produced, hands down. Period,” concluded the former cricketer.

India’s batting faltered on a challenging pitch, collapsing to 119 runs in 19 overs despite a valiant knock from Rishabh Pant. However, Pakistan’s chase appeared comfortable, needing just 48 runs from the final eight overs with eight wickets remaining.
This is where Bumrah stepped up. The right-arm pacer produced a match-winning performance, grabbing three crucial wickets. Well supported by Hardik Pandya’s two-wicket haul, Bumrah restricted Pakistan to 113 for 7, sealing a dramatic win for the Men in Blue.
