Jasprit Bumrah praised Rohit Sharma’s exceptional captaincy, highlighting his proactive approach and empowerment of players, emphasizing that Rohit’s leadership boosts team confidence in crucial moments.

Star Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah lauded Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, describing the 37-year-old as exceptional. Rohit, currently the third-highest run-scorer in the 2024 T20 World Cup with 248 runs from seven matches at a strike rate of 155.97, has impressed Bumrah with his proactive leadership.

In a video shared on ICC’s official Instagram account, Bumrah highlighted Rohit’s approach in the previous ODI World Cup, where he empowered players and encouraged them to express themselves freely. Bumrah noted that Rohit also shares his valuable experiences at crucial moments during matches, contributing significantly to the team’s confidence and cohesion on the field.

“Rohit Sharma has been absolutely phenomenal. Even in the previous World Cup you know, he has been proactive, he gives a lot of freedom to his players, he lets the players express themselves. When he feels the right time, he shares his own experience during the match. So ya, it feels really great and I feel very happy playing under him and the confidence of the group is also very high,” Bumrah said.

Ahead of the T20 World Cup final, former England captain Nasser Hussain had expressed admiration for India’s skipper, citing his long-standing appreciation for Rohit’s skills both as a batsman and a leader. Hussain likened Rohit to an “iron fist in a velvet glove,” noting his ability to balance authority with a calming influence, contrasting with the passionate and visibly emotive leadership style of others like Virat Kohli.

“I have been a fan of Rohit for a very long time, as a batter, as a captain, and as a person. He seems to have a very calming influence. Whereas you had other captains, maybe like Virat, who wore their heart on their sleeves, and they are incredibly passionate. Rohit is like that iron fist in a velvet glove. You do not mess around with Rohit, but he is also a big brother who will put his arm around you and look after you,” Nasser said.

In the tournament, India has displayed dominance, securing wins over strong teams such as Australia, Pakistan, and England. In contrast, South Africa’s journey to the final has been marked by narrow escapes and close encounters.

As both teams prepare for the finals at Barbados on June 29, India’s strong form makes them the team to beat, while South Africa will hope to reach new heights in their first-ever T20 World Cup final appearance.
