Stuart Broad expressed admiration for Jasprit Bumrah’s exceptional performance for Mumbai Indians in the IPL, highlighting his ability to use pace and trajectory effectively.
Jasprit Bumrah’s absence from IPL 2023 due to a stress fracture raised concerns about his form upon his return. However, those doubts were swiftly dispelled as he showcased his skills in the Asia Cup, ODI World Cup, South Africa tour, and the recent Test series against England at home.
Making a resounding comeback for Mumbai Indians, Bumrah impressed with a three-wicket haul, featuring his trademark inswinging delivery that dismissed Gujarat Titans’ Wriddhiman Saha in the powerplay. He continued his impact in the death overs, securing the dismissals of David Miller and B Sai Sudharsan in the same over, finishing with bowling figures of 3/14 from four overs.

England legend Stuart Broad praised Bumrah’s performance, highlighting his ability to use pace and trajectory effectively. Speaking on Star Sports, Broad emphasized that Bumrah’s exceptional skill and talent ensure success, leaving the management to determine how to utilize him effectively in the team’s strategies.
“That’s what he does, it’s just his trademark. He will beat you with the pace. He will beat you with his trajectory. It’s an interesting one with the new ball, I feel like he asked to come on and get the first wicket of the day and set the tone,” Broad said.
“But whatever he is going to use he is going to be successful because of so much skill and so much talent. And it’s just up to Hardik and team and management to figure out exactly where that will work,” he added.
Australian batter Steve Smith also expressed his delight at Bumrah’s return to form after missing the previous IPL season, praising his performance in the opening match.
On the match front, despite Bumrah’s stellar bowling, Mumbai Indians faced a narrow six-run defeat against GT. Reflecting on the match, Stuart Broad acknowledged the thrilling nature of the final overs and expressed disappointment at MI’s inability to capitalize on their strong position. However, he concluded by noting the positive signs for the team despite their defeat, emphasizing the challenge of winning away matches in the IPL.
