Reportedly, BCCI secretary Jay Shah might run for the ICC chairman position, whose elections are set for November 2024.
The election for the next chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC) is expected to take place in November this year. Current chairman Greg Barclay, who has held the position for four years, is eligible for another term. However, there are speculations that BCCI secretary Jay Shah might run for the position.
Jay Shah has been involved in cricket administration since 2009, previously serving as the joint secretary of the Gujarat Cricket Association. He joined the BCCI in 2015 and was elected board secretary in September 2019.
The ICC will convene its annual conference in Colombo later in July. According to a report by Cricbuzz, the timeline for the election could be formalised during this meeting. Shah has not publicly commented on his intention to run for office, but reports suggest he aims to introduce changes in the ICC’s operations.

Cricbuzz also reported that the ICC has amended the tenure of the chairman. The new chairman will serve a three-year term, an increase from the previous two years, but can only be re-elected once, unlike the previous rule, which allowed for two re-elections.
Speaking of Shah’s likeability, cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar recently praised Shah for his contributions to the BCCI and the growth of cricket in India. “Many people criticise Jay Shah, focusing on his father’s political position rather than his contributions. However, what Jay Shah has achieved—like bringing in the Women’s Premier League, ensuring equal pay for the women’s team as the men’s, increasing fees for IPL players, and significantly boosting incentives—is commendable,” said Gavaskar of Shah.
