India legend Jhulan Goswami suggested that KL Rahul should shift to the middle order for his IPL team LSG, considering the impending T20 World Cup.
The ongoing IPL season has sparked debates over the strike rates of established Indian batters, notably KL Rahul, who faces pressure to secure a spot in India’s T20 World Cup squad due to his below-par strike rate. Rahul, leading Lucknow Super Giants, holds a strike rate of 128.57 while opening the innings, with LSG winning three out of four matches.
Meanwhile, players like Shivam Dube, Sanju Samson, and Riyan Parag have impressed with their red-hot form, potentially catching the selectors’ attention. With India’s top three settled, middle-order slots are open, with Rahul vying for a place. Despite his wicket-keeping skills, stiff competition from Samson, offering a similar skill set and superior strike rate, intensifies the selection dilemma.
Indian legend Jhulan Goswami suggested Rahul should consider batting in the middle order for LSG, considering the looming T20 World Cup.
“Keeping #WorldCup in mind @klrahul should consider moving in the middle order for #LSG – Now is the time to shuffle those cards strategically!” Goswami posted on X.

Notably, Virat Kohli, despite his remarkable performance of 316 runs in five innings, is also facing scrutiny for his strike rate while opening for Royal Challengers Bangalore. However, cricket legend Brian Lara believes that a strike rate of 130-140 is acceptable for an opener like Kohli, who has the ability to accelerate towards the end of the innings.
