Jitesh Sharma was named captain of the Punjab Kings for their final IPL match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad as Sam Curran returned to England for national duty.
Jitesh Sharma will lead the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their final match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Sunday at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Sharma takes over the captaincy from Sam Curran, who has returned to England for national duty.
Curran was selected for England’s five-match T20 series against Pakistan and will join the team for the first T20I scheduled for May 22nd in Leeds.
The Kings have already been eliminated from playoff contention and currently sit ninth in the points table. With only five wins in 13 games, they will be aiming to end their season on a high note.
Jitesh Sharma, a wicketkeeper batter, has been a consistent performer for the Kings throughout the season. While his batting average of 14 might not be eye-catching, he has provided valuable contributions in the middle order. His leadership skills will be tested in this final match as he looks to guide his team to a winning performance.

Both SRH and PBKS will be playing their final matches of the league stage on May 19th at 3:30 PM IST.
