England have named Jofra Archer in their playing XI for the third Test against India at Lord’s, replacing Josh Tongue. The five-match Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy is currently tied 1-1, with India securing a massive 336-run win at Edgbaston.
Archer returns to the Test lineup for the first time since February 2021, having struggled with a recurring elbow injury and a stress fracture in his back. The 30-year-old Sussex pacer has 42 wickets from 13 Tests at an average of 31.04.
“Sussex fast bowler Jofra Archer replaces Josh Tongue for the third game of the five-Test series, starting on Thursday, July 10. The 30-year-old right-arm quick returns to the England Test team for the first time since February 2021 and will make his 14th cap,” the official statement from ECB read.

Meanwhile, Tongue, despite being the leading wicket-taker in the series with 11 wickets, misses out. Conditions at Lord’s are expected to differ from Edgbaston, prompting England to bring in extra pace.
Additionally, Gus Atkinson, who returned to the squad after recovering from a hamstring injury sustained in May, was not included in the final XI.
