Bairstow also playfully hinted at a potential “surprise barbecue” from his team to celebrate his upcoming 100th Test cap, acknowledging the emotional significance of the milestone.
As the fifth and final Test match between England and India looms in Dharamsala, Jonny Bairstow has lauded the groundsmen for their exceptional work.
Speaking ahead of the match, Bairstow acknowledged the quality of the pitch, which had previously hosted a Ranji Trophy match, and expressed confidence in the ground staff’s efforts despite challenging weather conditions. He also commended the outfield’s condition, highlighting Dharamsala’s reputation as one of the world’s most scenic cricket venues.
“It’s a used pitch from the Ranji Trophy last month… let’s see. Ground staff have done an amazing job with the pitch considering the weather we have had here. They have done a great job with the outfield here in Dharamsala. Looks good. The ground is one of the most picturesque venues in the world,” Bairstow said at the press conference.
With the match marking Bairstow’s 100th Test appearance, he humorously hinted at a potential team celebration, joking about a “surprise barbecue,” while acknowledging the emotional significance of the milestone.
Bairstow also addressed his batting struggles on the tour, stating that despite feeling confident, runs have been elusive. With just 170 runs from four matches at an average of 21, his performance has been underwhelming.
India’s 3-1 lead, secured with a five-wicket win in the fourth Test, marks their 17th consecutive home series win. Despite the series outcome, both teams aim for World Test Championship points as the final Test in Dharamsala approaches on March 7.
