England captain Jos Buttler opened up with their loss against India in the T20 World Cup Final.
England captain Jos Buttler shouldered the blame for his team’s crushing defeat to India in the T20 World Cup semi-final. Chasing a target of 172, England were dismissed for just 103 runs, handing India a dominant 68-run victory.
Buttler acknowledged that India outplayed England in all aspects of the game. “They played well, and we were a bit unlucky in the powerplay with a few close calls. But looking back, I would have definitely brought Moeen Ali into the attack earlier,” he said, as quoted by Cricbuzz.
The England captain regretted his decision not to utilise off-spinner Moeen Ali, especially considering the pitch’s increasing assistance for spin bowling. “We were outplayed by India. They deserved the win. They had a very good score, and I was hoping to restrict them to around 145–150 on that pitch. It was always going to be a tough chase for us from there,” Buttler admitted.
England’s designated spin options, Adil Rashid and Liam Livingstone, combined for only one wicket in eight overs. In contrast, Indian spinners Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav shared six wickets between them, dismantling the English batting order.

“Obviously, India has some fantastic spinners. Our bowlers did well, but in hindsight, I should have brought Moeen on earlier. With the rain around, I thought the pitch wouldn’t change much, but they out-bowled us. They had a good total, so I don’t think winning the toss was the deciding factor,” he concluded.
England’s World Cup journey ends with this semi-final defeat. India, on the other hand, will face South Africa in the final on Saturday at the Kensington Oval in Barbados.
