Kagiso Rabada was suspended after testing positive for a recreational drug during the SA20 and has now reportedly returned to India.
South Africa pacer Kagiso Rabada, part of the Gujarat Titans squad, recently revealed the reason for his IPL 2025 absence. He confirmed that he is serving a provisional suspension after testing positive for a recreational drug during the SA20. As reported by ESPNcricinfo, Rabada has now returned to India.
Rabada had returned home in early April for what was termed a personal matter. On Friday, he issued a statement addressing the situation and acknowledged disappointing his supporters. Rabada also emphasized his respect for the game and the opportunity to play.
“As has been reported, I recently returned to South Africa from participating in the IPL for personal reasons. This was due to my returning an adverse analytical finding for the use of a recreational drug,” Rabada said in an official statement.
“I am deeply sorry to all those that I have let down. I will never take the privilege of playing cricket for granted. This privilege is much larger than me. It goes beyond my personal aspirations. I am serving a provisional suspension and I am looking forward to returning to the game I love playing,” he added.
Kagiso Rabada expressed his gratitude to Cricket South Africa (CSA) and Gujarat Titans for their support during his suspension. He thanked his agent, CSA, and the team for their assistance, as well as his legal team and SACA for their guidance.
Following this admission, his journey in the rest of the IPL season appears unlikely. The Gujarat Titans have yet to comment on his future participation in the tournament.
