Kamindu Mendis and Maia Bouchier are Named ICC Players of the Month for March 2024

Kamindu Mendis and Maia Bouchier were awarded the ICC Players of the Month for March 2024, recognizing their outstanding performances in cricket.

The International Cricket Council has announced the winners of the ICC Men’s and Women’s Player of the Month awards for March 2024 following the recent unveiling of shortlists. Kamindu Mendis has clinched the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award for his exceptional performance during Sri Lanka’s ICC World Test Championship encounter against Bangladesh in Sylhet.

Mendis played a pivotal role in Sri Lanka’s victory by scoring a remarkable century in the first Test, rescuing his team from a challenging situation, and eventually securing victory by 328 runs with his 164 in 237 balls. Notably, Mendis became the first player batting at number seven or lower to score two centuries in a single Test.

Expressing his delight, Mendis stated, “I am extremely happy to be named the ICC Men’s Player of the Month, which I consider an inspiration for my international career. I also wish the very best for the other two players who were nominated along with me, Mark Adair and Matt Henry, whom I consider excellent players and good competitors.”

Meanwhile, Maia Bouchier of England has been awarded the ICC Women’s Player of the Month prize for her stellar performance in the T20I series against New Zealand. Bouchier played a crucial role in guiding England to a 4-1 series win with her explosive batting, amassing a total of 223 runs at an impressive average of 55.75.

In her statement, Bouchier expressed her gratitude, saying, “First of all, thank you to everyone who voted for me. I am so happy and grateful to everyone. I am so honoured to have won this award, and I hope there are many more to come.”

For the unaware, both Mendis and Bouchier were chosen as the winners for March through a combination of votes from global fans registered at icc-cricket.com and a specialist panel comprising the ICC Hall of Famers, former international players, and media representatives.
