Kane Williamson will have to sit out of the T20I series against England because of his other cricket commitments.
New Zealand will be without star batter Kane Williamson for their upcoming T20I series against England, though hopes remain high for his return during the subsequent One-Day International leg. The experienced right-hander last featured for the Black Caps in their Champions Trophy final defeat to India last March.
Williamson’s absence follows his recent unavailability for series against Australia and Zimbabwe, during which he fulfilled commitments with Middlesex in county cricket and The Hundred. His limited involvement stems from a casual playing contract with New Zealand Cricket.
Head coach Rob Walter clarified that the decision was precautionary, citing a “minor medical issue” that emerged last month. “It was mutually agreed he required more time to recover,” Walter explained, while expressing optimism about Williamson’s imminent return. “He’s obviously a world-class player and we’re hoping these two weeks will ensure he’s ready for the ODIs against England and the following tour by West Indies.”

In more positive selection news, Walter confirmed the returns of white-ball captain Mitchell Santner and promising left-hander Rachin Ravindra from their respective injuries. “It’s great to have Mitch back. Alongside being our leader, he’s one of the very best white-ball spinners in the world,” Walter stated, while noting Ravindra’s enthusiasm following his unfortunate absence from the Australia series.
All-rounder James Neesham, initially drafted as Ravindra’s replacement against Australia, retains his place after impressive bowling figures of 4/26 in the final T20I against Mitchell Marsh’s side.
