Kapil Dev praised Rohit Sharma’s team-oriented leadership style, while subtly mocking Virat Kohli’s approach.
Legendary Indian cricketer Kapil Dev has drawn comparisons between current captain Rohit Sharma and former skipper Virat Kohli, highlighting Sharma’s team-centric approach to leadership.
Speaking at a recent event, Kapil Dev commended Rohit’s self-awareness and ability to play within his limitations. “He doesn’t play like Virat Kohli. Rohit doesn’t get as animated as Virat. He knows his limitations and within those limits, there isn’t anyone better than him,” said Kapil at an interview.
This commentary came as India prepares to face defending champions England in the T20 World Cup 2024 semi-final. Under Rohit’s leadership, the team remains undefeated and seeks to break their long-standing ICC title drought.
Kapil Dev further emphasized Rohit’s focus on the entire team. “Many big players come in and play for themselves, captain for their sake. For that, I feel Rohit has a big tick mark that he keeps the entire team happy,” concluded Kapil.
Speaking of India’s squad in the T20 World Cup, while India’s bowling attack has been impressive, questions linger around the batting unit. The decision to open with both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli has not yielded consistent results, with Kohli registering four single-digit scores in six matches. Experts debate whether Kohli should return to his usual number three position. This decision ultimately rests with Rohit Sharma.
India enters the semi-final as the only undefeated team alongside South Africa, who secured their spot in the final with a dominant nine-wicket victory over Afghanistan.
