KKR defeated MI by 24 runs in IPL 2024, with Venkatesh Iyer’s 70 and Mitchell Starc’s 4 wickets playing a key role in the victory.
After winning the toss, MI impressed their home crowd with some quick dismantling of the top and middle order of KKR batters. Kolkata was down by five wickets within 6.1 overs. Nuwan Thushara picked crucial wickets from Salt, Raghuvanshi, and skipper Shreyas Iyer that shattered KKR’s innings. However, Venkatesh Iyer, in at number 5, held the inning steady with a crucial 70-run contribution off 52 balls. Manish Pandey partnered with Venkatesh to propel KKR to a respectable 169 runs.
Jasprit Bumrah, the star MI pacer, picked 3 wickets at an economy rate of 4.70, while MI skipper Hardik Pandya picked crucial wickets of Sunil Narine and Manish Panday to halt KKR within a chasable total.

However, the chasable total seemed too tough for MI batters to push past, as the openers failed to give a decent start. Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma, along with Naman Dhir, were dismissed within the powerplay. Suryakumar Yadav, though, came in to salvage the chase and shifted the momentum towards MI temporarily. However, he was dismissed by Russell, which eliminated the team’s last hope of winning.
In the Kolkata camp, Narine, Chakravarthy, and Andre Russell scalped two wickets each. Mitchell Starc, the star bowler of Kolkata, picked up four wickets for the team, which sealed the victory for the team with seven balls to spare. The Knights, therefore, won the match by 24 runs and retained their second position on the IPL points table with 7 wins out of 10 matches.
