KL Rahul expressed immense joy over India’s historic victory in Cape Town, stating that despite their previous competitiveness in matches, this 2-day win held exceptional significance.
KL Rahul remains astounded by the remarkably swift conclusion of the second Test against South Africa at Newlands, which ended within a mere two days, marking the shortest completed Test match ever in terms of overs bowled – only 106.2 overs. Expressing his elation, Rahul highlighted the significance of India’s victory, becoming the first Asian side to triumph in a Test match at Cape Town.
Reflecting on past experiences at the venue, where despite competitive performances, they fell short due to batting lapses, Rahul conveyed his immense happiness over this triumph, feeling as though the match had just begun and swiftly ended akin to the toss.
“Obviously, it’s a matter of great happiness that we have won for the first time in Cape Town. This is my third series and every time we come here, we were always in the game, but we ended up losing the Test match when we didn’t bat well in a session. So really happy that we could get this win and very special. In terms of emotions, honestly, no one is able to understand. It seems like the toss happened just now and the match was over,” said Rahul when speaking on Star Sports.
After suffering a harsh defeat in the series opener at Centurion, India rebounded, securing a win within five sessions in the subsequent match to level the two-match series. Reflecting on the prior loss, Rahul noted the unexpected setback that dented their chance of securing their maiden Test series triumph on South African grounds.
“A little planning and a little change in the attitude. We can’t say we weren’t ready in the last Test match. We were ready but it happens at times in Test matches, that the opposition really blasts you out of the Test match. We are not used to it. In the last four to five years, we have been a team that’s really competed. We won series outside of India. So weren’t ready for that. It was a huge hit for us,” he explained.
“It speaks volumes of how much we enjoy playing Test cricket, how much we value playing for our country, and how much Test victories outside of India mean to us,” Rahul concluded.
